Homemade Beef Dog Treats that are Healthy and Enjoyable

The wonderful thing about dog treat recipes is that you have options. Dogs typically prefer wet foods, because it aids in digestion, which is where meats like beef, chicken, rabbit and tuna come in handy.

It’s also beneficial to prepare dog biscuits with a well-balanced approach to diet. The recipes that we share can be replicated and changed to fit the needs of your pets. Oatmeal, for example, is a healthy, inexpensive way to avoid the gluten in grains like maize, wheat and barley.

Healthy dog treats that save you money

A bag of dog biscuits might cost you $5-10. Using the recipe below, you can prepare several large batches of vital, authentic and pure ingredients for roughly the same cost or less.

  • 3 lbs. lean ground beef
  • 6 cups chopped green beans
  • 3 cups pumpkin puree
  • 4 ½ cups cooked oatmeal
  • 6 eggs

You’ll see that this variety of homemade dog treats is about as easy as cooking dinner. It’ll also supply you with enough treats to last a month or longer. We use lean ground beef, because the fat content will be the first to spoil, as it can rapidly go rancid.

Fry up and brown the ground beef with green beans, after setting your oven to 350 degrees F. Add the pumpkin puree and cooked oatmeal, mixing it together before removing it from heat and letting it cool. Whisk the eggs and stir them in, as well.

Using a cookie sheet that’s lined with parchment paper, bake the mixture in dog cookie-sized pieces for 30 minutes. Reduce heat to 200 degrees F and continue baking from 1 ½ hours, then let them cool.

Dog treat recipes that use only beef

Jerky is actually much easier to make for dogs than for humans. The nutritional content is sufficient for a satisfying treat, and you don’t need to add flavors like marinades, sauces and spices.

You don’t have to limit yourself to beef. Organ, ground and any kind of raw meat will work. You can use virtually any kind of fish, meat or fowl, with the exception that you want to remove as much fat content as possible for longer storage times.

For example, let’s use some muscle meat and bones. You can grind it up in a sturdy food processor after cutting away the visible portions of fat, then simply dehydrate it.

Set your dehydrator for jerky to 165 degrees F. Place the ground beef onto dehydrating trays in 1/8”-thick portions for about 5 hours. We recommend cutting slits halfway through the meat prior to drying, to make it easy to tear off smaller portions.

How to make dog treats

As you know, homemade dog biscuits are relatively simple to cook. Peanut butter dog treats, for example, have an enormous amount of recipes, which can use honey, oatmeal, as well as other gluten-free grains.
